I have recently bought a computer program called Koi Companion 2004, which enables me to keep all Koi related details in one place, namely my computer. This saves all the problems of writing information on pieces of paper, and then having to remember where I put it later on. The program allows you to do the following; Create a virtual pond with details of size, type of construction, cost, filtration etc. Record pond equipment, maintenance history, treatment history and water readings, and fish. All of these can be for any number of ponds, and/or quarantine systems. Next are the Koi details; Dob, name, classification, Variety, sex, which pond they are in, breeder, country of origin, tategoi?, date and place of purchase etc
Then there is the Gallery for posting any photo's of fish that you may have.
The next section is the Health Library, where you can find a list of treatments for most common ailments as well as photo's of certain parasites. (You can also add to these as required). The program will also work out the quantity required of the listed treatments, based on the number of gallons that was entered for the pond size. This section also contains details of diseases etc by Paula Reynolds.
The last section is on Feeding where you can record type and quantity of food used, and also recipe for any home made food used. Finally, there is also a calendar facility with automatic reminder. Also a facility for printing a checklist in case any one needs details for looking after your fish whilst you are away. (The calendar facility can also be used for printing a calendar with your own photos on) Ken Judge the software author is giving 10% of the proceeds from the each sale will be donated to the St Agatha's Trust and charity The Wooden Spoon, so they will also benefit from any sales. I believe this to be a very comprehensive piece of software that is more than worth its purchase price. Obtainable from www.koikit.co.uk Price is £23.49 to download (approx 14MB) or, £29.36 on CD. Both Prices include vat When you install the software it must be from the computer that it is going to be used on, you then send an e-mail to Ken Judge and he replies sending a "key" that is required before you can use the program.
